Covid-19 Testing

A lot of patients have been asking about Coronavirus testing and how to get it. Unfortunately due to low supply, covid-19 tests are only available to those with symptoms and who have the highest risk for severe illness.

The two forms of testing include PCR and Antibody testing. Polymerace chain reaction (PCR) is a throat/nasal test that looks for the virus’s genetic material. It is meant for patients who have an active infection. Antibody testing is a blood test that checks to see if your immune system has created antibodies against the virus. This test checks to see if you already had the virus and must be done 21 or more days after symptoms.

Currently there are no FDA approved covid-19 at-home test kits. But our office will keep you posted if this changes or if affordable office kits become available.
